It may seem from photos below that Eliza’s inaugural visit to mommy’s ancestral homeland of Massachusetts could easily be summed up with one sound – “Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz”. However, I can assure you that her eyes were often open wide, her face filled with smiles, and her heart full of warm, fuzzy loving feelings, as she got to meet more of this “really big family” that we keep telling her about. It was easy for her to doze off to sweet dreams however, as there was no shortage of willing arms to rock her, and able voices to soothe her.
On Saturday, we were happy to have four generations of Smith’s and three generations of Coady’s together for a summer cookout, though with the rain, we mostly ended up inside. Daddy was happy to have a chance to test his grilling skills, something he rarely gets to do in the confines of a Brooklyn apartment. Thanks to all who were able to make it. Eliza was thrilled to meet you!
The best moment of the weekend was when daddy took Eliza for a walk around Grand Aunt and Uncle Martha and Paul’s yard to show her where he said “I do!” to mommy. We sat on the grass, listened to the birds and bugs, letting Eliza hear the real sounds that her digital white noise maker machine poorly attempts to recreate. Her urban roots aside, we think she is going to turn out to be a real nature girl.
Finally, Eliza proved to be a fantastic traveller, happily riding in her car seat in the taxi, and falling right to sleep on the Amtrak train as it rumbled on down the line.
