We are happy to announce that today, the Fourth of July, is Eliza’s first Independence Day. I never really understood what Independence Day was all about, but now that I am a father, and I’ve learned it is the day that your child is considered “independent” and “created equal”, I think it is just fabulous! I mean, now she can change her own diaper, put her self to sleep, and spit up wherever and whenever she wants, with no parental oligarchy telling her how to live her life! Micaela and I plan to spend the rest of our days sipping tea and watching the BBC!
As her first act as an independent child, Eliza would like to wish her Uncle Tony a very happy birthday today! (She just can’t wait until her own first birthday in just over ten months – hint, hint!). Eliza was very happy to meet Tony and Aunt Patricia as they stopped over in New York on the airship home to the City of Angels from Cambridge, where Tony is pursuing a Masters in Saving the Planet through Building Things More Smartly. (Way to go, Tony!). Unfortunately, he had a bit of the ol’ flemmy throat during his visit, so he mostly admired Eliza from afar (and boy, is she admirable!). Eliza demanded he return again soon in perfect health, as to facilitate cuddling.
All in all, we are into the seventh week now, life is good, and we are enjoying a very quiet holiday weekend here in Brooklyn. Our life is still mostly lived within a few blocks from home, all on the schedule of Eliza’s hunger and sleep needs, but it is all worth it!
Ilike her patroitic outfit…I am wearing red strips and blue skirt also…Happy 4th!
Baby Eliza looks so cute in her patriotic colors. She should be the first woman president of the U.S.A. She looks very happy. I hope to see her soon.
Her Aunt Becky likes it too.
