Eliza loves her clothes and dressing up. She has great fun taking her clothes out of her drawers, and looking through them. She gets visibly excited when she gets to wear a certain dress, or a pretty hat. She overwhelmingly prefers pink, no matter how much we have tried providing a wide variety of shades of colors. She also likes wearing some odd accessories, as well, including science lab goggles, a toy drum, and, of course, oversized shoes.
Her interest in jackets, hats and shoes, and the fact that those words dominate her limited vocabulary, was driven home even more when Eliza’s godbrother Kasander came to visit, and all of his words were of the classic boy variety – “truck”, “bus”, “siren”, etc. We have not pushed our daughter towards fashion, and I can assure you that Rosa and Paul have little interest in the automative arts, but there it is right in front of you – some deep choices being made about cotton vs. steel, wool vs. petroleum. Go figure. At least I can find some consolation in the fact that Eliza knows what an X-Wing fighter is, and can say “Yoda!”, even if she won’t care for them much as she gets older.
The looks below include our Winter 2011 snowsuit from Patagonia in a many shared of pink, a houndstooth-patterened matching beret and button down trench with pink flower – thanks to Grandma Freitas -, even more pink candycane and snowmen “Chrimsus Pajamas”, and a two-toned wool sweater – possibly from Mini Boden – and finally, a not-pink rough and tumble polo shirt and jeans – though they are flannel-lined with pink hearts! – , for winter outdoor/indoor playtime with cousins and godbrothers.
