When we were in Brooklyn a few weeks ago, we noticed that the most interesting thing for Peter at the playgrounds were the basketball games going on. He was magnetically drawn to the fence to watch the big kids playing, and tried as hard as he could to run out on the court and steal the ball a few times.
Since being back in Brookline, a new mini-hoop appeared at our local playground, and Peter got an early birthday present – his very own size 3 basketball. We’ve also discovered that the only kind of video that he’ll watch is basketball, and so we’ve started watching old NBA games on YouTube – classic Bulls, Lakers, Celtics… oh, and some Kings games too!
Now, coming from the Freitas-side of the DNA, I wouldn’t give him much of a chance at being able to jump or even hit a high percentage of baskets, but given that he is also part-Smith and Coady, well, he who knows?! Great-uncle Dana just came by for a visit, and maybe some of these genes will make it to Peter, and of course, the general Coady athleticism spark must be present, too!
The biggest question of course is which team he is going to be a fan of… The Celtics areĀ an obvious choice, but we’ve got strong ties to the Sacramento Kings and Brooklyn Nets, too… I guess it will be up to all of you out there to decide, by sending him appropriately-themed birthday presents!
WOW…I am very excited to find that at least one of my grandchildren enjoy watching basketball……and, watch for a priority box in the mail with some Kings stuff – Go Kings!!
