From Virginia, to Massachusetts, then Maine and New Hampshire, we ended the summer travel season with a whole heap of adventure. It was a real “planes, trains and automobiles” experience, with Eliza taking flight for the first time in small commuter planes that made even the well-traveled daddy a bit anxious. There aunts, uncles and cousins abound, and Eliza had no problem with all of the attention. She also got her feet wet in swimming pools, mountain lakes and the Ogunquit tides, showing a great love for water that we are sure will turn her into a little tadpole soon enough. Mommy and Eliza were also very happy to show off all of the cute new outfits they had packed for the occasion, with her polka dot beach jumpsuit being the biggest hit on our daily walks down the Marginal Way to the beach.
Upon our return from this great odyssey, we encountered a chaotic mess of an apartment, still fully engaged in a lead paint removal process that was supposed to have been done three days earlier. Unfortunately, our super/contractor got in a bit over his head, and this left us homeless until the work was done. However, we have excellent neighbors who took us in with open arms, just like a scene right of the supposed “good ol’ days” that apparently still exist!
After an environmental checkup test gave us the all clear, and a week of late night mopping and sponge cleaning by daddy, we were all able to move back in to a freshly painted, newly organized apartment, ready for the Fall, mommy’s return to work, daddy’s start to teaching and, most importantly, Eliza’s new nanny!
